Holiday Plans

After an AMAZING, yet extremely busy holiday in Vietnam and Cambodia last year, my husband and I started plotting on where to go in 2020 less than a month after our return. We decided that we wanted to do absolutely nothing, but work on our tans, so we decided on Mauritius, a 4 hour direct flight from Cape Town. We started saving and by December I was able to book and pay for our romantic island holiday.
Then COVID19 and lock-down happened and with less than a month to go it seems like our holiday is not going to happen, not any time soon anyway. Our travel agent has been amazing, giving us various options, but the reality is no one can predict how long this is going to last, if the flight patterns are going to be the same or if we would still even be able to afford our spending money this year! There are just too many what if’s and uncertainty.
This lead me to think about how often have we made plans, whether it is a dinner out with friends or something bigger, like booking a holiday and then things get derailed? I thought that we were covered for the unexpected by buying travel insurance, but with COVID19, even that is not a guarantee. So much for planning for both the expected and unexpected! The point I am trying to make is that things do not always go according to plan, no matter how well we think we have planned for it!
I am disappointed, concerned, slightly stressed, but I also realize that right now, the only thing I am in control of is my emotions and my mindset. It can take me to a negative space, which under lock-down is not a good place to be! How I play my next hand is up to me!
In coaching we are given many tools to help us with dilemmas and making tough decisions and I know right about now I need to use it on myself! I also realize that I am blessed to be in both the Tourism and Coaching industry. I know enough about travel policies to help us with our trip and as for my emotional journey, I have tools to assist me with regulating my emotions and making sounder decisions.
You alone can control the mental space which you find yourself in. Choose what is best for you and if you need help there are many coaches out there, including me, that is prepared to assist with basic techniques to get you through these next couple of weeks.
Until next time…….
Love, light and positive change,
Ophelia
(After much back and forth, I think we have decided to postpone until next year, round about the same time. It is the wisest choice for us to make)
