Madam & Eve

Updated: Jul 9, 2020

Day 11 and another “off” day from work. I have a couple of leave days owing so am taking them on a Monday and Friday, which gives me a 3 day working week. After a very slow start to my day, I decided to get cracking with a bit of house cleaning in the bedrooms and bathrooms.

From my earlier posts you will know that I am spoilt in that I have an “Eve” that comes in once a week to do the cleaning and ironing for me. Now before you judge, I used to do EVERYTHING myself, but eventually I got talked into “job creation”, as by the time it came to a Saturday, I just would not have the strength to do all the cleaning myself. My “Eve” is absolutely lovely and has been with me for about 8 years now.

Toilets and sinks done, now to read the instructions on how to use the 3-in-1 cleaner for the laminate floors in the bedrooms. I “follow” the instructions, but instead of gleaming floors, I am left with these “splatter-like”, dull looking floors. Now what on earth am I doing differently to what “Eve” normally does? After she has “been”, the floors are normally so clean and shiny that you could eat off of them! A Google investigation later and it seems that vinegar might do the trick in getting rid of the splatter! What on earth did we do before Google when it comes to researching our “disasters”? I was so close to giving “Eve” a call for advise, but I just know that I would never live it down!

Something which was only supposed to take me 2 hours maximum to do, has now turned into a bit of a nightmare! Spraying of the vinegar and some elbow grease later, it looks like it has done the trick! Still does not compete with “Eve”, but needless to say by this time, I am completely “over it” and cannot give 2 hoots if they are shiny or not, as long as the “splatter” is gone and the floors are clean!

You might now be wondering what I am doing about the ironing? Well, that is where I draw the line in the sand. If you are going to wear it and it needs ironing, it is NOT going to happen! If you want to wear it, you will wear it creased! Alternatively please only wear clothes that does not require ironing! At the moment it is a bit of a mixed bag since no one can judge us for wearing creased clothes!

Today I am extremely grateful for my “Eve”! Trust me, I do not take her for granted, since her presence is immensely missed over the December holidays when she goes home to the Eastern Cape, but she might just be due for a bit of a mid-year increase when she gets back after lock-down!

This “Madam” is so over it!

Until next time…….

Love, light and positive change,

Ophelia
