Ruffled feathers

Updated: Jul 10, 2020

It is cold and rainy outside. It has not stopped since starting shortly after 09h00. Jason, being the fire lover that he is, had our fire lit at 08h30 and promptly set himself up in front of it. I must admit he caught me a bit of guard. I was still in my pj’s with uncombed hair, when I walked past him on his weekly management Zoom call. Thanks for the warning and not having your camera positioned so that I could walk past without being noticed!

I was in such a flat spin, that I had breakfast before my exercise which then meant that I could not exercise, because exercising on a full stomach goes against my capabilities. Ever eaten before a roller-coaster ride? You do it once and never again. Not unless you want not only your breakfast, but also your dinner regurgitated!

Breakfast, meditation to centre my ruffled feathers, shower and it is time for me to do some work and catch up with my team. I plonk myself in front of the fire and promptly decided that since we have a fire going we might as well make our own potato and vegetable soup and Camembert-bread on the coals. Winter really is upon us now. I think of all the homeless with no roof over their heads and no soup in their bowls. Even with lock-down and reduced hours, my cup still runneth over.

Are you still counting your blessings or are you only focusing on that which you do not have?

This morning I posted on my Instagram: “Look around you. Appreciate what you have. Nothing will be the same in a year”

As I take a bird’s eye view of where I am sitting in front of a warm fire, working from home, I realise that a year from now I might not have this “luxury”. I do not know what the “new normal” is going to look like and frankly, I do not think that I am ready to find out! For now, I am quite content in my “bubble”.

Since the start of lock-down I have been obtaining advice from Dr Google on “home remedies”. We have been sorting through our “old” CD’s, listening to those forgotten ones. Unfortunately some of them are scratched and beyond saving, but then there are those that “deserves” rescuing! Cheap toothpaste, my finger, a micro-fibre cloth and warm water is all that is needed to perform this resuscitation! Now I must admit, I was skeptical, but folks, it works!! Give it a go! Sometimes it really is the simplest methods to restore things to their former “glory”.

On Monday I “buggered up” the vinyl floors again, so Dr Google had to be consulted. Apple cider vinegar with a splash of liquid soup in warm water. It kind of worked, but I think maybe I was lacking a bit of “elbow grease”, as to me they look lack-luster. Apparently a drop of baby oil in the warm apple cider vinegar water should do the trick. Guess what is now on my shopping list? Will let you know how that goes!

I could just wait for Eve to return, but by then I fear that the floors might need replacing! In this case, maybe it is a case of leaving it up to the professionals!

What “home remedies” have you tried or do you prefer leaving it up to the professionals or rather discarding, in with the new and out with the old?

My domestication has really been taken to another level! I am not sure if it is the economic uncertainty, so I am being more “thrifty” or if it is the pure curiosity in proving Dr Google either right or wrong!

Until next time.

Love, light and positive change

Ophelia
