The knee

Yesterday morning I woke up with pain in my left knee. Admittedly the pain started soon after I returned from my walk to the Pharmacy on Friday morning.
I did not think much of it at the time, but thought maybe it is my shoes and I should try going on my walk with a different pair. That is what I did. I wore a different pair of running shoes with my new “riot” shield, as Jason calls it. It all started reasonably event free, until the shield started fogging up and then halfway through the walk my knee started aching! So much for the shield being easier! Not so, I am afraid! As for the “wrong shoes” theory. Mmmm.
Returned home slightly frustrated, but was determined not to get into a bad mood! As I walked through the garden the smell of honey suckle was in the air and I then decided that the flower beds was in need of weeding. Both my mother and Jason gave me a “lecture” on how I should not be kneeling on that knee and that I should rather be “bending”, but at the time it felt ok-ish. One flower bed done, a refreshing shower, a few kitchen cupboards needed re-organizing, as I needed space for all the baking tins which my mother-in-law gave me earlier in the week. 3 cupboards later, lunch, binge watching of a series or 2 that needed catching up on, an afternoon nap and it was time for an apple crumble to be made! Forgot to turn the oven on, so whilst I waited for it to get to the required temperature I also did a batch of chocolate biscuits. Glass of red wine poured, time to sit down and enjoy the fire which Jason had lit for our evening braai and that is when I noticed that my knee was swollen!
Gosh, ice pack with knee in the air, lots of “I told you so’s”, more wine, old school tunes on in the background, a perfect ending to a rather productive day.

This morning my leg is still “killing me”, although the swelling seems to have gone down, but then I feel an ache in my right ring finger and I notice that my joint is swollen. Gosh, what on earth is going on?! Just when I thought that all my aches and pains are under control, things suddenly flair up!

What is my body trying to tell me this time? Is my knee and my finger related, although this time round, the knee pain feels muscular and not in the joint. Have I eaten something that is flaring all of this up. What is my body saying “no to” ?
When I was working with the Biokineticist I had to do a monthly “weigh-in” together with various health screenings. At one point my cholesterol suddenly spiked. I could not recall what I had changed in my diet, so I started a food journal and soon realised that it was not what I was eating, but rather what I was not eating! Lots more green vegetables were introduced and the next time I went for my screening my cholesterol levels were better than what it has ever been!
Am thinking the same principal might apply to the osteoarthritis flair up in my finger. What do I need to eat more of or what needs cutting out completely. As for the knee, am hoping that my Physiotherapist has re-opened her practice so that I can get that sorted out once and for all!
Did I tell you that I am getting better at this baking thing? Both the apple crumble and the chocolate biscuits were a success! Guess it does depend on the recipe, although according to Jason, practise makes perfect, so I might still be a “pastry queen” in the making!
Until next time.
Love, light and positive change
