It is OK to be a tortoise

Day 7 and am not going to lie, have hit a bit of a “slump” today. Nothing has happened, in fact, I had a great video call with my team this morning, which left us all motivated and determined to come out stronger after this.

Have started a bit of a routine of exercise, followed by a healthy breakfast, shower and then switching on the laptop to get some work done. My mornings are pretty covered, doing a bit of washing or house cleaning in between, so not bored at all. Then comes lunch, which is usually a healthy salad and then boom, my energy somehow disappears.

Am guilty and start scrolling through Social Media, Facebook and Instagram, as I am quite keen to see what everyone else is getting up to, even though I have vowed to try and decrease my aimless screen time, instead of increasing it! This time round my eye did fall on a wall comment, whereby the person vented about how some people are saying that it is not OK to sit and do absolutely nothing during this time. I sat back and really thought about this, especially since I have a “mental” to-do list which I would like to do over the next couple of weeks of things that I keep on putting off because of “lack of time”. Now, of course, I have no excuse and indeed all the time in the world!

Here is the thing though. We all are dealing with this lock-down in our own way. Some of us, are getting our to-do lists done, whereas others are enjoying the binge watching of Netflex because it is something we would not necessarily do. Some of us have given our spouses to-lists with the promise for baked goods as a reward and incentive, but that is a story for another day!

These are extremely unique and unusual circumstances which we find ourselves in, so as far as I am concerned, there is no right or wrong. We all have the same amount of time and what we do with it is entirely up to us. The tortoise might have gotten there long after the hare, but I can tell you, he got there less tired, he got to smell the roses, he digested his food and he enjoyed the view along the way.

2 more weeks of this and I am quite content to be a little bit of both. The days I feel up to it, I will be the hare and give my list a go. And the days I feel like being a tortoise, I will enjoy every second, because it is not every day that I can fully absorb my surroundings and enjoy my time of being still.

Until next time…….

Love, light and positive change,

Ophelia
